New NHL CBA 2012 - 2022 and the BFHL

Hey Everyone,

So that other league is back in action.  That means next year we will have a lock out until January 19th, 2014.

Hahaha, no.

Anywyas, so the new CBA is pretty much in place.  What does it mean for BFHL?  Well were certainly going to ttry and adopt as much as we can that makes sense.

Here's a pretty decent summary of some key items wer are going to try and consider.  Click here for source, see snippet below.  Ivan has given a rough indication of where were currently at.  Everything is open for discussion so feel free to comment.

Also Monday, the NHL Players' Association sent agents a list of some of the changes to the collective-bargaining agreement.

It details how the league's minimum salary will rise from $525,000 to $750,000 over the course of the 10-year deal.

Other issues that caught agents' attention: Teams can now trade a player and retain some of the salary cap hit, a significant change, particularly for teams that previously had players who seemed next-to-impossible to trade because of high salaries.

For example, the Montreal Canadiens might have been able to trade Scott Gomez if an interested team only had to pick up a portion of his salary.

The rule allows for 50% of a salary to be retained, and teams can make three of those moves in a season.

Another important rule change is that it is no longer possible to bury a player with an undesirable salary in the minor leagues as the New York Rangers have been doing with Wade Redden. Starting in 2012-13, players in the minors who earn more than $900,000 will count against the [edit: pro] salary cap.
