Nokians's blog

Nokians begin the year with a bit of an identity problem.  Are they affiliated with a cellular company or a tire company?  GM Ng takes it all in stride and ignores the question and instead reveals the team's new hockey puck logo. There's no time these days for corporate shenanigans!

If the season ended today, the Nokians will find themselves out of a playoff spot.  However, closer inspection reveals that the Nokians have the lightest first half schedule of all teams in the NHL with a league low of 38 games played, while the league high is 47 games.  This scheduling anomaly means one thing.  It's going to be a torturous second half.

In an effort to turn the team's fortunes around, Nokians GM made a flurry of free agent acquisitions in an effort to increase the compete level of the team.  They have parted ways with Francois Beauchemin, Marek Zidlicky and Dan Cleary freeing up cap space while bringing in Michal Rosival to lead their defence for the next three years and a supporting cast of Roman Polak, Jim Slater, Scott Nichol, Vernon Fiddler, Adam Hall and Joe Callahan.

It is their inaugural season in the BFHL and only five games into the season the Nokians ownership is already rubbing that panic button.  Things seemed to be ticking along, however a couple shut out losses in a row has raised some eyebrows.  After their most recent 3-0 loss to MDMM, the Nokian has surprisngly moved Henrik Lunqvidst to the farm and brought up Mike Smith.
